My kids and I have been battling the flu already this year and I can personally say this year’s flu bug is horrible if that is what I have. My kids have been sick to and I think they brought it home from school so parents check the kids closely as any hint they become ill get them checked out. The strand of flu I have it very tough and the doctors say it’s going around and very dangerous.
I hate seeing kids sick and with the superbug going around it’s hard to say how long it will last. Hopefully this season the flu will not be bad and everyone will have a flu-free holiday. Now wouldn’t that be great.

It seems this Superbug is going around the country and invading our school systems and is a very dangerous type of infection. The Kentucky School system shut down 23 school affecting over 10,000 of their students. if we didn’t have enough to worry about as parents were given even more.
I guess that is the way of our society even more. I would take the good old days when all you had to worry about was what your going to wear to school and how well you would do on your test. Things have changed and it seems not for the better that’s for sure.

Where I live tonight is Trick or Treat night and were getting ready for it. It’s going to be a little chilly, but you know how much kids love it. I thought I would list a few facts about Halloween that I found interesting.
- Anoka, Minnesota is the self-proclaimed “Halloween Capital Of The World”
- Salem Massachusetts also has made that claim
- New York City Hosts the largest Halloween event
- The average price spent on a costume is 38.11.
- Americans spend over 5 billion dollars on Halloween treats, costumes, and decorations a year.
I guess we can say Halloween is a money maker for retailers and one int he end we all enjoy a lot.

Sixteen years is a milestone especially to my daughter, because it means I have to teach her to drive. I will admit it’s not something that I’m looking forward to. I mean I want to see her drive on the one hand, but on the other hand it scares me here out on her own. I guess it’s just part of me being a Dad.
She has a level head on her most of the time, but putting her behind a wheel is a whole another animal. I guess we will have to wait and see how she handles it. I will keep everyone posted on her progress towards her license.

Thursday my son came down and decided he wanted to join Cub Scouts. I had no problem with it as I was a Cub Scout and thought it would be great for him. He was real excited about it and meeting his friends and I also wanted to see how much scouting has changed since I was in it.
My son of course was excited as we headed out and I tried to calm his excitement telling him I doubted there would be very many people their. He was still confident there would be. As we pulled up only one car was there and it was the scoutmaster. My son was disappointed and I told him it would be okay. As we talked to the scoutmaster he told us this is common and kids just don’t join like they have before. It’s a shame because scouting is fun and you learn a lot. My son signed up anyways and will be put in a pack that has around 10 kids from other schools. It’s a shame though that kids don’t seem to care anymore.

It seems every year Christmas starts in retail stores earlier and earlier. I took the kids to the store today and Christmas decorations were up Christmas music was playing. I will admit they had a cute pink Christmas tree that my daughter just loved.
I guess it all comes down to the mighty dollar bill. The earlier you get the stuff on the floor the more money you can make. I guess in the end we will have to wait and see what happens and how well Christmas is this year. I just wish they wouldn’t start so early. Oh thought I would get a head start with a Christmas pic too lol!!

This weekend we went to our annual trek Halloweekends which is held at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. If you want to check out there park it’s located at www.cedarpoint.com. Halloweekends is where they turn the park into a Halloween theme and even though it’s usually colder the kids just love going there.
Cedar Point many times has been voted the best Amusement Park in America. It has tons of fun and even though it is a little high at 42.00 a ticket if your lucky you can get cheaper tickets. When we walked up to the gate a guy sold us his extra tickets for 25.00 a piece so sometimes you will get lucky.
The best part about Cedar Point besides the Halloween theme is they have plenty for kids to do from 3 years old to 103. So, you will never be lost for something to do. If my son had his way he would be in the arcade all the time we are their. It can run you some money if you eat there as the food is expensive, but what isn’t anymore. The bottom line for me is it puts smiles on my kids faces and takes them away for a day from the world we live in. You can never replace that it’s priceless.

Having teenage daughters this subject has been discuss in our home a few times. I’ve always told my kids if you download a song make sure you pay for it that way your covered and you don’t have someone coming after me for it. After sitting here and thinking about this and reading about the judgement that the record companies got against that women for thousands of dollars. Something interesting came to my mind.
Artists and record companies are complaining about illegal downloads and not getting their fair share of the money. Now my real question to them is how about the consumers who have bought millions of CD’s for 14.95 and most had only one hit. Do we get a rebate of the songs that were useless to us. If we have to pay for each download then we should be given money back for the songs we paid for that weren’t of top quality. Just a thought.

Every year at my son’s school they have a program which is called Donuts With Dads and Donuts With Mom. This program is used to get parents more involved with their kids at school. Now I go every year as I think an active parents gives kids more reasons to do better in school. kids like their parents to be involved in school as it makes them feel good.
After going to this function which by the way takes around 10 minutes of your time and runs from 8am-9am in the morning. It usually happens just twice a year. I decided as a little test for this blog I would see how many parents in a 350 student school would actually show up. The grand total was a paltry 10 dads out of 350 kids. I will admit I had to scratch my head thinking this was crazy. After talking to the principal who was helping out he said this was normal. People wonder why kids don’t care about school. I guess it’s easy to see because the parents don’t either.
Halloween is one holiday that has really took a life of it’s own it seems. Growing up as a kid Halloween wasn’t as important as it is now. Kids really love dressing up as their favorite characters and going house to house. back when I was growing up we enjoyed it, but it seems kids really get into this holiday even more. Adults love this holiday and strive to enjoy themselves on this day to.
In fact retailers will tell you that Halloween is one of their better holidays as far as sales go. Many times people don’t realize that Halloween is as popular as it is. Just look around and you will see how early people get ready for Halloween. I guess Halloween has grown into something people consider more than just a fun holiday. It has become a family affair.
