Cell Phones And Kids

Well, I’ve been avoiding this issue for a long time as my kids and I had the discussion about getting a cell phone. Now my oldest daughter has one as she is 16. Now this is where it gets tricky. The 12 year old and even the 8 year old wants one. The rule was when you are able to show good responsibility for things than I will get you one. The other two haven’t so they are phone less.

My son always has some excuse and it’s actually one I used when I was younger many years ago and that is everyone else has one. I know it seems everyone has one but an 8 year old. Honestly, who is he really going to call anyways. If he needs a phone he can borrow mine to make a call. I do see kids his age with camera phones and those Razor phones and I’m thinking no way. I asked them if they had a choice which cell phone they wanted. One answer came out within 3 seconds the Apple i-Phone. I guess marketing gets even down to 8 year olds.
