Now for the most part I have to admit television isn’t the greatest, but I do have to give kudos to Nickeloden for a program they ran last Saturday in my area when it told kids to get out in front of the television or computer and go outside and play. This is a welcome change to where they want you in front of the television. They ran a story where a kid became overweight by just sitting watching television and playing video games.
The story went on to show how the kid lost the weight by exercising outside do different things. Not to many times does a television program do this so hats off to Nickeloden. They did something in the right direction and should be commended.

I will have to admit I do make my kids were clothes the proper way and cover up, but the way some of these kids dress nowadays I just wonder where these parents are at. I guess busy or they don’t care which is real sad. It’s just not the clothes though as my daughter wanted to shake my hand and showed me how kids shake hands today.
All I could say is wow as it’s not the traditional handshake that good old mom and dad showed me. I’m sure they have to be shaking there heads somewhere up in heaven. So many things have changed from generation to generation it makes me happy and sad. Kids have missed out on a lot of things, but in a way they have had a lot of advantages we never did. I guess I just don’t get Kids clothes and actions anymore. Guess I’m old school.
I guess as a dad I just don’t get it when we talk about music and my kids. Every week it seems they change who their favorite singer or television shows. Music seems to change by the day as some of the music that is released today is pretty bad. With profanity used so much in today’s music I don’t understand why or the purpose of it.
It seems today’s artists find the need for it. AS I was growing up we never needed it and we grew up okay. I guess we now live in a different type of society. The bad part is that my kids will never get to see what life was really about.
Probably one of the hardest thing you have to do as a father is finding a happy medium. It seems no matter what you do one kid thinks your favoring one over the other. I’ve learn that it just comes with the territory so I’m use to it. You try to be fair with them, but it seems the harder you try to be fair the tougher it gets.
After a number of years raising kids I just take it in stride as you will never make everyone happy. Kids are just like anyone else they will have their perceptions and what and how they feel about things. You just have to respect their opinions and take it in stride.

The other day I was telling my kids about a think called silly putty where you could put it on top of comics and actually make a copy of it with a clay like substance. They thought I was crazy so I had to prove them wrong. As parents we know when you have teenagers they are always right lol! Well finding silly putty wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Many toy stores don’t carry the fun stretchy clay anymore.
But, after fruitful searches in many stores I finally found some to my kids dismay. As soon as they seen the packaging they said I was still crazy. Once we got home and the putty did it’s magic all the kidding stop and I finally got one up on my kids. Yeah for dads everywhere. My question is why are such simple toys hard to find anymore. I guess because not alot of demand for them anymore.
I think I’ve come to the conclusion that boys don’t like to read as much as girls. For the last two or three years I’ve been trying to get my son to read more. We work on it a lot at home and I know the school try and get him to read more. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a boy thing and if he will ever read at a decent pace.
I guess when he is ready to read he will and than I can go from there. Pushing him isn’t the answer so I will just wait and see how well he does this year with his reading and go from there. Just think boys hate to read.
Many years ago you could almost find role models everywhere. Now the list keeps dwindling it seems daily. I can remember a time when teachers could be considered role models, but even now that has been questioned. The best role models is still a kids parents, but sometimes kids don’t look that way. They tend to look at there peers which these days isn’t good.
You have people like Britney Spears and others who use to be role models who are not nothing but the opposite of a role model. Hopefully we can get back to good role models for our kids besides there parents. I don’t know though as our values as a society have really took a nose dive.

Many people throughout the country maynot have drive-in theaters as they were called, but some communities still have them if you want to call them that. Since the weather has been nice I thought I would take the kids out to see a movie and see exactly how out of touch the drive-in theaters are compared to today’s million dollar built theaters.
Well the first thing you will notice is not a lot op people go to these places like they use to. There use to be a time where they would be packed but not anymore. I guess the indoor comfort has spoiled people. I wil tell you though one thing that the drive-in theaters didn’t let the indoor ones have all to themselves was the high prices. You are going to pay a lot of popcorn, candy and all the others things you thought may be cheaper at a drive-in. No believe it price gouging is also there to.
Where I live a school system or should I say a principal decided that grade school kids didn’t need recess because they did do well on state tests that were taken. Holding these kids from recess to me just defeats the purpose even more. These kids are between the ages of 6-10 and in my opinion it doesn’t really help them to keep them from the one thing they really enjoy at school.
Now I can understand the principal’s point to want to get better test scores, but the process and the way he did it was just wrong. Many parents are upset which they have a right to be. Luckily my kids don’t go to that school system. Getting better test scores start with better learning environment and encouraging students not taking things away from them.

It many ways it seems Sept 11 hasnt been forgotten by many. As each passing year goes it seems more people actually forget about Sept 11. That is very sad. As society we lost so much that we will never get back. We lost countless lives that can never be replaced and our way of life was shattered. Maybe the real crime could be how many people dismiss this day as if it’s like any other day.
Many kids don’t realize how important this day was in the USA and how it changed everything. I just hope as the years go by people don’t treat it just as any other day, but a special day to remember all the people we lost and how much that day has changed our lives.
