I was surfing the Internet like I usually do and I thought I would look over a story about the Top Colleges in the United States. Looking over the list the Top 5 is really what you would expect. Below is the list of the Top 5:
- Princeton
- Harvard
- Yale
- Stanford
- Califorina Institute of Technology
Tha average costs in tuitons and fees for these collges is a little over 30,000 dollars. Average room and board runs around 10,000 dollars. Nice little bill for a single mother or father to have to shell out isn’t it. Education has really become expensive and I can see why many students are so in debt as they have to take out student loans to help pay for the costs. It’s a shame that it has come down to this. One of the richest countries in the world is putting our future decision makers in such a deep hole I don’t know how they will get out of it.
As a single parent I just hope things will change in the future and give our kids a fighting chance. I know there are grants and scholarships which help out. How about the kids that can’t afford that? I know where they go to McDonalds or the local grocery stores to take low paying jobs. It’s a shame we have come to that but a fact of life.

Over the last few years that I’m a single dad I’ve noticed a trend which of course when I was married I never did. With school starting up soon I’m sure everyone has seen school supplies on sale about everywhere. That’s the big thing for these department stores to get you to buy. Now I don’t have any problem buying the school supplies for the kids, but I do have a question for retailers though. How come they are so cheap now and later in the year they shoot right back up?
I’ve seen ads for glue 10c a bottle or crayons the good kind for a quarter a box. Now these are all great deals and I do grab my fair share though. My real question is why don’t we have these prices all the time. I know it’s to get customers through the door and get them to buy other things so they can turn a profit. Wouldn’t it make more sense to at least have some of these products priced this way all the time.
Customers wouldn’t feel like pawns in a game of profit. These same products you are paying a dime and a quarter for will cost you one or two dollars it’s just crazy. I guess it’s just the way we do things here in America.

First of all I would like to say I’m excited on being the new writer here on single dad. Over the years of being a single dad I’ve gone through many changes and one of the things is learning sometimes how to be a parent again. Raising kids are tough and hopefully through this blog we can learn together and talk about what we did right and what we did wrong. I have three kids daughter 15, daughter 13, and a son 8. They give me more back than any father could ever ask.
My name is Ken and I always invite readers to be a part of this blog. I enjoy reading your comments good and bad. Tell me when I’m wrong and give me praise when I’m right. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone who reads my blog. Fatherhood is special and with single dad I hope to explore it more and show that contrary to popular belief their are some great single dads out there.
I hope you will stop back often and check out my posts and enjoy single dad as much as I love writing it.
